NACEC and buildingSMART Russia awarded the best BIM teams in the Russian industrial sector as part of the 7th Annual Skills Competition ‘The Best in the Nuclear Capital Construction Industry-2019’ held by ROSATOM
On 6-9 August 2019 Krasnodar hosted the final stage of the 7th Annual Skills Competition ‘The Best in the Nuclear Capital Construction Industry-2019’ held by the State Atomic Energy Corporation ‘ROSATOM’.
Upward of 1,000 persons took part in the finals, including 356 finalists, over 150 experts, 60 companies, in 19 nominations per 25 competencies, as well as representatives of ROSATOM, sectoral and external enterprises, providers of nominations, leading higher educational establishments and visitors to the Competition.
During two days of competition on 7-8 August, NACEC and buildingSMART Russia jointly with independent experts and experts appointed by participating companies, who joined the competition committee, evaluated teamwork and identified the best teams in the new all-Russian team nomination entitled ‘Best Team for BIM’.
The final was attended by 30 persons out of 6 teams recognised as the best professionals representing entities from all over Russia: JSC ASE EC, VNII Galurgii JSC, GSPI JSC, CPTI JSC, JSC FCS&HT ‘SNPO ‘Eleron’, and FSUE PO Mayak.
For two days of the Competition, the teams struggled intensely. They were faced with the task of building up, within very tight deadlines, a robust consolidated information model based on the information models in 4 sections: architecture and construction, electrical engineering, technology, and master layout. The participants used various software provided by the leading Russian and foreign companies, such as AEC collection of Autodesk Software, Renga Software, Nanosoft and Trimble Solutions Corporation tools. The work was aggravated by the need to set up a model in 2 formats: the proprietary format selected by participants and the open IFC format.
Teamwork was assessed by the following key parameters:
- completeness and quality of the consolidated information model of the objects;
- audit of a BIM model for collisions with the help of Solibri;
- submission of competition materials: visualisation of the object and construction process; and
- detailed elaborations of the information model and construction management.
All the participants demonstrated high professionalism. The winner in the nomination ‘Best Team for BIM’ was the team of JSC FCS&HT ‘SNPO ‘Eleron’ that ranked first. Thanks to the superb qualification of specialists from VNII Galurgii JSC and their motivation, the team won the second place in the finals. At the final stage of the Competition, the team created their own classifier used as a tool for generating specifications and charts, as well as the foundation for setting up a model. The participants of JSC ASE EC demonstrated a unique system of designing processes directly at the site by applying an iterative approach to operating the model within each discipline. The team came in a good third in the finals.
The winning teams were awarded with valuable prizes at the gala event devoted to celebrating the Nuclear Industry Builders’ Day. The awards were presented by Gennady Sakharov, Director for Capital Investments, CAPEX, Statutory Civil Engineering Supervision & Statutory Expert Assessment Director at the State Atomic Energy Corporation ‘ROSATOM’, President of NACEC.
A special award was deservedly granted by buildingSMART Russia for the best practical use of the openBIM approach as part of team nomination to the participants of FSUE PO Mayak who provided a panel of experts with a sophisticated data transfer structure based on the open data format.
